Integrating Adobe Prelude with VidiXplore Cloud

If you want to leverage the value of your digital assets, the assets cannot exist as islands in your organisation. To prevent that, tools and metadata need to be integrated and accessible from all departments.

Mediasmiths did an interesting proof-of-concept (see video) integrating Adobe Prelude with Vidispine’s VidiXplore, and thus bridging a professional desktop production tool with a cloud-based media management tool. This will probably be more common in future workflows, where different departments in a large organisation will have different tools, different needs, but still want to leverage the same digital assets.

Beside the actual integration, having the right metadata on the digital assets will be key to re-use digital assets in an organisation. To be able to use any digital asset you need to know that it exists, and then get hold of it when you need it, in the format you need it.

Different departments have different needs and will most probably search for the same asset in a different ways – this requires a flexible metadata model that can accommodate many types and layers of metadata, and also different metadata models on the same asset. The metadata need to be integrated through-out your full workflow, accessible in different ways from different tools to different people.

What’s your thoughts on video production tool integration and metadata management?
